January 12 - Tip Reporting Deadline -

Employees receiving over $20 in tips during December must report these to their employer by January 12. This can be done using IRS Form 4070 or a personal statement including your signature, Social Security and employer details, and the total tips received.

Employers are obligated to withhold FICA taxes and income tax from these tips. Should your wages not cover these withholdings, the uncollected amount will appear in box 8 of your W-2. You'll need to reconcile this when filing your annual return.

January 15 - Estimated Tax Payment Deadline -

This date is crucial for making your fourth-quarter estimated tax payment for the 2025 tax year on time. Missing this deadline means you must file your 2025 return and pay any taxes by February 2, 2026, to avoid penalties.

Handling Weekends & Holidays:
If any deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, it automatically extends to the next business day.

Disaster Area Extensions:
In the event of a federally declared disaster, affected areas receive filing extensions. For specific regions and dates, consult FEMA’s declarations page and the IRS's tax relief information.
