March 2026 Tax Calendar: Critical Deadlines for Partnerships and S Corps

If January was the warm-up, March is the main event for many business owners. While individual filers look toward April, partnerships and S Corporations face their specific filing deadline this month. Getting these returns filed accurately is critical because the data flows directly to your personal returns via Schedule K-1s.

As we handle tax preparation for clients here in Las Vegas and across the country, we are focused on ensuring you maximize deductions while remaining fully compliant with the IRS. Here is your roadmap for the major March 2026 business deadlines.

March 2: The Information Return Deadline

Because March 1 falls on a Sunday in 2026, the deadline for several information returns pushes to Monday, March 2. This date primarily affects businesses that still file paper forms, though we highly encourage electronic filing for better tracking and efficiency.

Information Returns (Paper Filing)

If you have not yet transitioned to e-filing, you must file government copies of Form 1096 along with the corresponding information returns (such as the 1099 series) for payments made in 2025. Note that 1099-NEC forms should have already been filed by early February.

Gambling Winnings and Tips

For businesses in the gaming or hospitality sectors—industries we know well here in Nevada—March 2 is the paper filing deadline for:

  • Gambling Winnings: Form 1096 and Copy A of Forms W-2G.
  • Tip Income: Large food and beverage establishments must file Form 8027. If you own multiple locations, use Form 8027-T to summarize.

Note: If you file these electronically, you generally have until March 31.

ACA Reporting (ALE)

Applicable Large Employers (ALEs) filing on paper must submit Forms 1094-C and 1095-C. Providers of minimum essential coverage must file Forms 1094-B and 1095-B.

Farmers and Fishermen

If you did not pay your estimated taxes by January 15, your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040) is due today to avoid penalties.

March 16: The Big Deadline for Flow-Through Entities

This is the most critical date of the month for many of our business clients. Because March 15 is a Sunday, the deadline moves to March 16.

Partnerships (Form 1065)

Partnerships must file their 2025 calendar year return (Form 1065). Crucially, you must provide each partner with their Schedule K-1 (and Schedule K-3 if applicable). These documents report the partner's share of income, credits, and deductions needed for their personal return.

S Corporations (Form 1120-S)

S Corps must file the 2025 Form 1120-S and pay any tax due. Similar to partnerships, you must issue Schedule K-1s to all shareholders.

Need More Time?

If your books aren't quite ready—perhaps you are waiting on missing data—we can request an automatic 6-month extension by filing Form 7004. However, please remember: an extension to file is not an extension to pay. You must estimate and pay any tax owed by March 16 to avoid interest and penalties.

Strategic Planning: S Corp Election

March 16 is also the deadline to file Form 2553 to elect S Corporation status for the 2026 tax year. For many self-employed individuals and LLCs, this election is a powerful tax planning strategy that can significantly reduce self-employment tax liability. If you miss this date, the election generally won't take effect until 2027.

March 31: Electronic Filing Deadline

If you utilize electronic filing systems (which we recommend for speed and accuracy), March 31 is your deadline for filing:

  • Forms 1099 (excluding 1099-NEC) and 1096.
  • Forms W-2G.
  • ACA Forms (1094-C, 1095-C, 1094-B, and 1095-B).
  • Form 8027 for tip income.

Disaster Area Extensions

When unexpected events occur, the IRS often provides relief. If your business is located in a federally designated disaster area, your deadlines may be extended. We monitor these announcements closely for our clients.

Navigating business tax compliance requires detail-oriented planning. Whether you need to file an extension or discuss an S Corp election, we are here to work one-on-one with you.
